Do Grapes Work Well in Smoothies?
Yes! Red grapes are so sweet and can be easily found in your local grocery store. When you have some on hand, why not add them to a smoothie mixed with some milk and bananas. It's a filling treat or a simple breakfast. Red grapes or green grapes would be great in smoothies, if you are using green grapes though, I would add a little more sweetener since they can be a little more tart than red grapes.
Ingredients to Gather
- Grapes. Fresh or frozen grapes. If you would like to use frozen grapes, simple add the grapes to a baking sheet and freeze them for at least 2 hours. Then add 2 cups of those frozen grapes to the blender. If you are using fresh grapes, add some ice cubes to the blender.
- Banana. This is for thickness and some added sweetness. You can use fresh or frozen bananas, whatever you have on hand.
- Greek yogurt. Yogurt increases the protein in the smoothie to make it more filling. Instead of yogurt, you can add protein powder. Use your favorite flavor or yogurt here. I like vanilla yogurt or a plain yogurt.
- Milk. Any type of milk is great. It can be non dairy or whole milk.

Substitutions and Variations
- Spinach or kale. For a boost of nutrients like vitamins and minerals, add some greens! I like to use a high speed blender to make sure it really blends all the leaves prob
- Chia seeds, hemp seeds, or flaxseeds. To add fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and a bit of texture add some seeds!
- Nut butter. To make this smoothie like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, add a scoop of your favorite nut butter. I like peanut butter, but almond butter will work too.
- Change the liquid. If you are dairy free, use almond milk, coconut milk, coconut water, soy milk, or cashew milk. You can also use your favorite juice such as orange juice or apple juice.
- Honey or maple syrup. For extra sweetness, especially if the grapes aren't too sweet.
- Add more fruit! You can add pineapple, mango, peaches, or your favorite berries to this smoothie for even more fruity goodness!

Make Ahead Tips
Making this grape smoothie ahead of time is so easy to do! Here's how you do it!
- Prepare your ingredients: Wash and remove the stems from the grapes, peel and slice the bananas.
- Blend the smoothie: Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Store the smoothie: Transfer the smoothie to an airtight container, leaving a little space at the top to allow for expansion if you're freezing it. Seal the container tightly.
- Refrigerate or freeze: If you plan to enjoy the smoothie within 24 hours, store it in the refrigerator. If you want to make it further in advance, you can freeze it. Just remember to thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before consuming.
