Chia seed puddings are so delicious for breakfast! I especially love blueberry chia seed puddings too!
Recently, I've kind of been over eggs, so I've been looking for a new breakfasts and I started experimenting with chia seed puddings. When I want to add a little sweet treat to my chia seed pudding, I add Nutella. Let me tell you, this house runs on Nutella! So why not add some Nutella to my chia seed pudding to bring together my two favorite things!

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this delicious chia seed pudding!

Substitutions and Variations
- You can use any type of milk you like! Almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk (like in my oat milk chia seed pudding) all work well. Full-fat canned coconut milk will create an extra creamy pudding but it will add a lot of fat to your pudding.
- Change the sweetener! If you don't have a sweet tooth, leave out the maple syrup. The Nutella has a lot of sugar in it already. You can also use agave syrup, coconut sugar, or stevia for a low-sugar option.
- Make the toppings fun! Fresh berries, sliced bananas, shredded coconut, or a dollop of homemade whipped cream make yummy toppings for Nutella chia seed pudding.
How To Make Nutella Chia Seed Pudding
Step 1: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the milk, Nutella, cocoa powder, and maple syrup. Whisk until the Nutella is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth. This may take a minute or two, but it’s important to ensure everything is well incorporated.
Step 2: Once the liquid mixture is completely mixed together, add the chia seeds. Stir the chia seeds thoroughly to ensure they’re evenly distributed throughout the liquid.
Step 3: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the mixture into individual serving jars with lids. Place the pudding in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight. This allows the chia seeds to absorb the liquid and expand, creating a pudding-like texture.
Tips and Tricks
- If you have some time and are worried about the chia seeds clumping, stir the chia seed mixture a couple of times during the first hour of refrigeration to prevent the seeds from clumping together.
- This recipe makes two servings, but you could easily double or triple this recipe for meal prep.
- If your pudding is too thick, add a little more milk and stir until you reach the desired consistency. If it’s too thin, add a few more chia seeds and let it sit for another hour.
- Some people prefer a smoother texture in their chia seed puddings. To do this, blend the chia seed mixture in a blender after it has set. This will give you a more mousse-like consistency.
Make Ahead Tips
Store your Nutella chia seed pudding in an airtight container or jars in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to 5 days, so it's definitely a great option for meal prep.
If you want to store it longer, you can freeze the pudding. Place it in a freezer-safe container, leaving some space at the top as the pudding may expand. Thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.
