Ingredients in Apple Chia Seed Pudding
- Chia seeds. I like to grab a big bag of chia seeds from the grocery store to make all sorts of chia seed puddings. Keep the bag in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
- Milk. Any type of milk will do. You can use almond milk, soy milk, cashew milk, or whole milk in this recipe. To make it vegan, go with a nondairy milk.
- Applesauce. Homemade applesauce or store bought applesauce are both great options. Go with unsweetened if you are using store bought applesauce.
- Maple syrup. For sweetness.
- Cinnamon. For that Fall flavor. Apple pie spice is also a great choice.

Substitutions and Variations
- Make it blended! If you prefer a smoother chia seed pudding, blend it up! Add all the ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Pour it into small jars and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- Add some mix ins! Don't be afraid to add chopped apples, chopped pecans, or a drizzle of caramel to the mixture for more of an apple pie chia seed pudding. You can even add in some yogurt like in my chia seed pudding with yogurt for some extra protein!
- Change the liquid! For even MORE apple flavor, use apple cider or a combination of milk and apple cider!
How To Make Apple Chia Seed Pudding
In a large bowl or a liquid measuring cup, add the chia seeds, applesauce, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and milk. Mix well. Portion the chia seed pudding into two mason jars or airtight containers and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Enjoy topped with diced apples, pecans, granola, or a drizzle of more maple syrup.
Tips and Tricks
- Once all the ingredients are in a bowl, give them a good mix. This will make sure that the chia seeds don't clump together.
- This recipe will make two servings. You can easily double or triple it for meal prep purposes or to feed a crows.
- The pudding must sit in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before it can be enjoyed. That's because the chia seeds need time to soak in the liquid. You don't need to wait for the pudding overnight, but it is best if you do.
- If you like a sweeter pudding, add some more maple syrup or your favorite sweetened.
- The ratio of chia seeds to liquid is usually 4 to 1, however, if you prefer a thicker or thinner pudding, adjust the liquid as you please!
Make Ahead Tips
Once you've mixed the ingredients together, transfer the mixture to an airtight container. If you made a big batch, you can also divide it into individual servings using small jars or containers, which makes grabbing a quick snack or breakfast even easier.
Pop those containers into the fridge, and you're good to go! The pudding will stay fresh for about 4-5 days. When you're ready to enjoy them, top them with granola, chopped apples, a drizzle of maple syrup, and some chopped nuts!
If you want to keep it for longer, you can even freeze it. Just make sure to leave a little space at the top of the containers to allow for expansion. When you're ready to eat, let it thaw in the fridge overnight, and it should be good as new.
Frequently Asked Questions
