Ingredients to Gather
- Mango. Fresh or frozen mango. To tell if a mango is ripe, feel it. It should have some slight give to the mango. It should not be as hard as a rock, but it also should not be very soft. Make my mango apple smoothie with any extra mangos!
- Pineapple. Fresh or frozen pineapple.
- Coconut milk. This adds to the super creamy texture of the smoothie. You can easily find coconut milk in the grocery store in a can or in the milk section. The one in the can is pure coconut milk which has a little more fat than coconut milk that you can find in the milk section.

Substitutions and Variations
Here are a few additions you can make to this delicious smoothie!
- Banana. Just like in a banana orange smoothie, adding a ripe banana can not only add sweetness but also adds to the creamy texture of the smoothie.
- Greek Yogurt. I love adding Greek yogurt to most of my smoothies. It adds thickness and a hit of protein. In your local grocery store, you can usually find many different flavors of yogurt. Use your favorite in this smoothie!
- Change the milk. Use unsweetened almond milk, whole milk, soy milk, cashew milk, orange juice, coconut milk, or coconut water in this smoothie. All would work perfectly!
- Spinach or Kale: To make this a green smoothie, add a handful of spinach or kale. Be sure to use a high powered blender so the green leaves are mixed well. You don't want chunks of lettuce in your smoothie.
- Protein Powder: For an extra protein boost, you can add a scoop of your favorite protein powder, such as whey or plant-based protein powder.
- Chia seeds, hemp seeds, or flax seeds: For some added healthy fats, add your favorite seeds.
- Avocado. If you are looking to add some extra healthy fat to your smoothie, add a quarter to a half of a ripe avocado. You won't taste the fat but it adds lots of great nutrition to your smoothie.

Making Smoothies without a Blender
There are a lot of options to make smoothies without a blender! You can make it in a food processor, just be careful pouring it, there really isn't a spout or a clean way to pour it out of the food processor.
Another way that I make smoothies a lot is with my immersion blender. Add all the ingredients to a plastic container, like a large plastic cup. Don't use glass here, you don't want to chance the glass breaking. Place the ingredients in the cup and then blender with the immersion blender until it is the consistency you desire.
