Full of crisp apples and sweet mango, this Mango Apple smoothie is a refreshingly delicious smoothie, perfect for a filling breakfast or snack! It's quick, easy, and oh so yummy!
This is a delicious smoothie to serve with your mango chia seed pudding for breakfast!
Mangoes might be one of the most underrated fruit in my opinion. My son loves mangoes in a mango pineapple smoothie or peeled and cut into pieces. You can't go wrong with a sweet mango!
When you combine the sweet mango with a slightly tart apple, you get the most perfect combination! Whether you go apple picking and aren't sure what to do with all those apples, or you are looking for a new and different smoothie recipe, I think you will love this recipe and it will quickly become your new favorite smoothie!
Is Mango and Apple a Good Smoothie Combination?
Yes! Apples are great in smoothies! The sweet mangoes compliment the slightly tart apples perfectly. Add a little bit of maple syrup and you have a sweet and tangy smoothie that everyone will love!
Ingredients to Gather
- Mangoes. Ripe mangoes that have been cut into chunks. If you are using fresh mangoes instead of frozen mangoes, add some ice cubes to the smoothie. You'll want one cup of frozen mangoes.
- Apple. One medium apple, peeled (if you want), and cut into chunks. I like using Gala apples or Fuji apples, but you can use whichever apples you have in the house or whichever apples you enjoy.
- Greek yogurt. For added protein. Plain or vanilla yogurt all great choices. I love adding yogurt to smoothies to make them more filling.
- Maple syrup. If the apples or mango are more tart, add some more maple syrup. Sometimes mangoes can be more tart than sweet, if that's the case, add more maple syrup.

Which Apples Are Best for Smoothies?
That is completely up to you! What type of apples do you buy at the grocery store? Just like when baking with apples, different apples add different flavors and textures to this smoothie. Here's an explanation of different types of apples to consider.
- Gala apples: Gala and fuji apples are always in my refrigerator. They are perfect for eating and adding to smoothies because they are crisp and sweet. They blend well and add a delicious sweetness to the drink without being tart.
- Fuji apples: Fuji apples are super sweet and super juicy. This makes them another excellent option for smoothies. They have a slightly denser compared to some other varieties, which can add to the texture and thickness of the smoothie.
- Honeycrisp apples: Honeycrisp apples are crispy and juicy with a slight sweet-tart flavor. They're refreshing in smoothies and delicious to snack on!
- Golden delicious apples: Golden Delicious apples are mildly sweet and have a smooth texture, making them ideal for smoothies. They blend well because they are a softer texture than other apples. This adds a subtle sweetness to the smoothie.
- Granny Smith apples: While Granny Smith apples are known for their tartness, they can add a nice contrast to sweeter fruits in a smoothie. Using them in moderation can provide a tangy flavor without overpowering the drink. You may want to add a little more maple syrup if you choose to use Granny smith apples into this smoothies.
Ultimately, it's up to you! Feel free to experiment with different types of apples to find the flavor and texture you prefer in your smoothies. Mixing and matching can also create fun, unique flavor combinations.
Substitutions and Variations
- Add ice cubes! If you don't have any frozen mangoes, use ice cubes to make this super cold and thicker.
- Add some greens! Add a handful of spinach or kale to the blender. Be sure you are using a high speed blender to blend the leaves really well.
- Add seeds! Seeds are a common addition to smoothies. You can add a tablespoon of chia seeds, flax seeds, or hemp seeds to up the nutrition of this smoothie.
- Change the protein! This has plain Greek yogurt, but you can add flavored Greek yogurt, a scoop of your favorite protein powder, or a scoop of almond butter or nut butter.
- Change the sweetener! Don't have maple syrup? Use honey or agave syrup instead of maple syrup. You can even leave it out if you prefer.
