Calling all ranch lovers! If you love creamy ranch dressing but want something a little lighter, you're going to love this easy Greek yogurt ranch dressing! It’s tangy, herby, creamy, and made with simple ingredients you probably already have in your fridge or pantry. Plus, it takes just 5 minutes to stir together!
Give my avocado cilantro lime dressing a try too!

My family is obsessed with ranch dressing, and this Greek yogurt version has become our go-to. It’s lighter than traditional ranch, but no one even notices the difference! The creamy texture and classic ranch flavor totally deliver, and the Greek yogurt gives it a little protein boost, too. It's a win-win!
I like to keep a jar of it in the fridge at all times for dipping chicken tenders, fresh veggies, or even pizza crust, just don't tell my tri-state friends! It’s easy enough to throw together during the week and always tastes super fresh. Honestly, once you try homemade ranch with Greek yogurt, you might never go back to the store-bought stuff.

Ingredients to Make Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this delicious dip!

- Greek yogurt. Use your favorite brand. Keep it plain, but you can use a full fat or a fat free version of your favorite Greek yogurt.
- Dill. Dill is a great herb to grow or have on hand. I love adding it to my dill pickle dip too as a cute little garnish!
- Garlic clove. If you think that the garlic clove might be a little too spicy, you can use a garlic powder instead. You'll still get that delicious garlic flavor but not all the spice.
- Buttermilk. Whole milk will work too, but buttermilk adds a little bit of tang. Use 1 cup of whole milk and add 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to make your own buttermilk.
- Lemon juice. For a little tang. Use fresh lemon juice if you have it, but bottled lemon juice will work too.

Substitutions and Variations
- Make it spicy! Stir in a pinch of cayenne, a dash of hot sauce, or even some finely chopped jalapeño if you like your ranch with a bit of heat.
- Change up the seasonings! Try mixing in 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan, a bit of Dijon mustard, or finely chopped green onions for a fun twist on the classic.
- For a richer, tangier version, instead of Greek yogurt, use plain sour cream, or even do half yogurt and half sour cream for the best of both worlds.
- Lime gives the dressing a slightly sweeter citrus twist that goes well especially if you're serving it with tacos, nachos, or Tex-Mex dishes.
How To Make Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing

Step 1
Add the Greek yogurt to a large mixing bowl or to a liquid measuring cup.

Step 2
Pour in the buttermilk.

Step 3
Add all the herbs and the minced garlic to the liquid measuring cup.

Step 4
Mix all the ingredients together. Let the dressing chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving so the flavors can meld together.
Tips and Tricks
- If the dressing thickens too much after chilling, just stir in a splash of milk to loosen it up.
- While any kind of Greek yogurt will work, whole milk (or 2%) gives the dressing a richer, smoother texture without being too tangy or runny.
- If the Greek yogurt and lemon juice make the dressing a little too sharp or tangy, a tiny pinch of sugar or drizzle of honey can help balance things out. Taste as you go! Also make sure to taste so you know how much salt and pepper to add at the end.
Storage Instructions
This is a great dressing to make in advance. It holds really well in the fridge!
This dressing is even better after a few hours in the fridge. Make it in the morning (or the night before) for the best flavor.
Store in a sealed jar or airtight container in the fridge. It keeps well for up to 1 week. Just give it a stir before serving.
I wouldn't recommend freezing this ranch dressing. The texture will change, so it's best to make it and let it hang out in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

Yes! If you don’t have fresh dill, you can substitute with dried. Use about 2 teaspoons of dried dill in place of the 2 tablespoons of fresh. I always have dried dill in my pantry so this is a great place to use it.
