Ingredients to Gather
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this tasty smoothie!
- Strawberries. Frozen strawberries or fresh strawberries are great options. There are lots of great options for frozen strawberries in the frozen section of the grocery store.
- Banana. One large ripe banana is perfect in this smoothie. If you have some overripe bananas, make sure you freeze the bananas before they go bad so you can add them to this smoothie. You'll want one cup of frozen bananas if that is what you have on hand.
- Almond Milk. This is a completely dairy free smoothie since we are using almond milk. Unsweetened almond milk helps make this smoothie not too sweet.
- Maple syrup. Strawberries can be slightly tangy and not super sweet, especially if you are enjoying this smoothie when strawberries aren't in season. Use maple syrup to sweeten this smoothie.

Substitutions and Variations
- Change the milk! Almond milk is a great choice in smoothies, but you can use whole milk, coconut milk, oat milk, coconut water, orange juice (like in my strawberry smoothie without milk), soy milk, or even cashew milk. You can use whatever liquid you prefer in smoothies in this delicious recipe.
- Add some mix ins! To up the nutrition in this smoothie, you can add chia seeds, flax seeds, hemps seeds, or even a tablespoon of your favorite almond butter or peanut butter.
- Add some protein! If you want to keep this dairy free, you can add a coconut milk yogurt, or you can use a regular Greek yogurt. A scoop of your favorite protein powder also helps make this smoothie a more filling meal or after work out snack.
- Change the sweetener! Maple syrup is a great option, but you can use honey, agave syrup, or sweetened condensed milk to sweeten this smoothie.
- Add some greens! Add a handful of spinach or kale to the smoothie to make this a green smoothie. Just make sure you use a high-powered blender to make sure you aren't getting any large chunks of leaves in your smoothie.
- Add more fruit! Just like my banana berry smoothie, you can add different berries, pineapple, peaches, or even mango!
How To Make This Smoothie
Step 1: Add the strawberries and banana to the blender. A high speed blender is best in this recipe.
Step 2: Pour the almond milk into the blender.
Step 3: Add the maple syrup to the blender. If you are using a different sweetener, add this sweetener here.
Step 4: Blend until smooth.
Tips and Tricks
- If you are not using any frozen fruit and only have fresh fruit on hand, add a handful of ice cubes. This will make the smoothie icy and cold.
- To change the texture of the smoothie, add more almond milk for a thinner smoothie. For a thicker smoothie, add some ice cubes. This would be perfect for a smoothie bowl.
- This recipe makes one large smoothie or two small smoothies. You can double or triple this recipe if you are feeding a crowd or if you are meal prepping this recipe.
Make Ahead Tips
Smoothies are great to be made and enjoyed immediately. If you would like to make this in advance, blend the smoothie and pour it into an airtight container. The smoothie will separate as it hangs out in the refrigerator. Before you enjoy the smoothie, shake it or add it back to the blender and blend it up with ice cubes.
You can freeze smoothies too! Pour the smoothie into a freezer safe container and freeze it for up to 3 months. Let it defrost in the refrigerator before enjoying it. You can also freeze the smoothie in an ice cube tray and then add it back to a blender with a little bit of almond milk right before you want to enjoy it.
Strawberry Smoothie with Almond Milk FAQs
Feel free to add more maple syrup than one tablespoon. Strawberries can be quite tart, so don't be afraid to add more sweetener. You can also use sweetened almond milk instead of unsweetened almond milk.
Sure! You can use an immersion blender in a large plastic cup. Don't use glass as the glass can shatter. You can also use a food processor, just be careful when pouring the smoothie as the food processor doesn't have a spout.
Yes! Almond milk is vegan as is maple syrup. This is a completely vegan smoothie!
