Ingredients to Gather

- Frozen mixed berries. In the grocery store, you can find a bag of frozen mixed berries. We are using frozen here because it adds to the texture of the smoothie without watering it down with ice.
- Banana. One large ripe banana that is nice and ripe. You don't want it to be too overripe, that will overpower the smoothie. Fresh or frozen banana can be used in this recipe.
- Greek yogurt. This is for an added protein boost. In the grocery store, you can find lots of different types of Greek yogurts. I like vanilla in this recipe, but you can use strawberry, blueberry, or even banana Greek yogurt.
- Orange juice. Orange juice adds a delicious tang to the smoothie.

Substitutions and Variations
- Change the liquid! Instead of orange juice, you can use milk, unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, or coconut water.
- Use fresh fruit. If you don't have frozen fruit, use fresh fruit. When using fresh fruit, keep in mind you will need to add ice cubes to the smoothie it make it icy and cold. You'll want to use a mixture of berries though. I like to use ⅓ cup of fresh blueberries, ⅓ cup of fresh raspberries, and ⅓ cup of fresh blackberries or fresh strawberries. You can use all, or some of these delicious berries.
- Add some greens! Kale or spinach can both be added to this smoothie. Just make sure to blend the smoothie really well. You don't want to be drinking chunks of leaves in your smoothie.
- Add some seeds! Flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds can add a lot of nutty flavor as well as nutrition to any smoothie that are added to. They add some healthy fats and some added nutrition.
- Add some protein powder! If you are using this smoothie as a meal replacement, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. Vanilla or a berry flavor would be the best option.
How To Make A Banana Berry Smoothie

Step 1: Add the berries to the blender. Try to use a high speed blender if you have one.

Step 2: Peel the banana and add it to the blender.

Step 3: Open the Greek yogurt container. Add the Greek yogurt to the blender.

Step 4: Pour the orange juice into the blender. Close the lid of the blender and blend for 30 second to 1 minute or until the mixture is the texture you desire.
Tips and Tricks
- Blend for about 1 minute or until the desired consistency is reached. To make a thicker smoothie, add some ice cubes. For a thinner smoothie, add more orange juice. Adjust the texture to your liking.
- Berries tend to be quite tart, so you might need to add some sweetness to this smoothie. Maple syrup, honey, sweetened condensed milk, or agave syrup are all great options. A little bit of sugar can be added to the smoothie too.
- If you don't have mixed berries, you can use only your favorite berry. Blueberries are a great option in this recipe and go perfectly with the banana.
Make Ahead Tips
Smoothies are best made and served immediately. You can make the smoothie ahead of time and pour it into a mason jar. It will separate as it hangs out in the refrigerator, but all you have to do is shake it and it will come back together.
This smoothie freezes great too! Make sure to freeze it in a freezer safe container and freeze it for up to 3 months. Defrost the smoothie in the refrigerator. When you are ready to enjoy it, shake it or add it back to a blender with some ice. This will revitalize the smoothie and make it icy cold!
You can also make this into ice pops. Pour the smoothie into your favorite popsicle mold and freeze for at least 4 hours. The kids love eating homemade popsicles! If you haven't tried that yet, I highly recommend you make popsicles with this smoothie!

Yes! I love making smoothies, especially single serve smoothies, with a simple immersion blender. Add the ingredients to a large plastic cup and blend it with an immersion blender. You can also use a food processor, just be careful when you pour it into a glass as the food processor doesn't have spout like a blender does.
Yes! This is a great recipe to double or triple if you are feeding a crowd.
Sure! Add a handful or two of ice to make the smoothie thicker. The thicker the smoothie, the better it will be in a smoothie bowl. The smoothie bowl should be scoopable, not just pourable.
